Sam Worthington and Jonah Hill have emerged themselves into the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 world to make this comical commercial. Great Marketing. Needless to say we are going to get this in the Marvelous World…

We were super disappointed by the Nintendo 3DS. Not that it is a bad system– it is indeed a great piece of technology, but because it did not have many games and other than being in 3D and having a slightly larger screen it was basically just a 3D DS (get it?).

I have to say that I am excited that the Sony PS Vita has us excited in the Marvelous World and we are going to get this one. Maybe we should sell the 3DS…

We have played all the Uncharted games in the Marvelous World and hold them in high regard. We have not gotten our hands on this game but we surely will when it is released for the PS 3 on 11.11.11

A company from Australia claims to have seriously changed the graphics game with their atom based graphics technology. Who knows? If it is true it is kind of exciting.

Euclideon, an Australian company based in Brisbane has made the remarkable claim that they’ve developed a new graphics rendering technology for video games that is “100,000 times better” than existing systems.

After their first announcement around a year ago, they dropped off the radar, and have recently resurfaced with a new statement as part of a video showcasing their new technology, built with nearly $2 million dollars of assistance from the Australian Government

While it is a bit light on the technical details, it is intriguing:
There is a better way to do computer graphics, which is used in medicine and the sciences. The better way to do computer graphics is to make everything out of tiny little atoms instead of flat panels. The problem is that this particular system uses up a lot of processing power. The more objects you have on the screen, the slower your computer will run. Having four or five detailed objects will run just fine, but you certainly can’t do a level of a game.

We got a lot of attention because we made the claim that we could run unlimited “little 3D atoms” in real time.
The video below showcases a test island they’ve created, apparently comprising of over 21 trillion polygons and running at 20 FPS.

They’re apparently a few months away from having an SDK available for game developers to start tinkering with the new technology, so we’ll have to wait a bit and see. In the meantime, as AusGamers is also predominantly Brisbane-based, we’ve contacted them to see if we arrange a chat to discuss more about their new technology.

We’re firm believers in the mantra of Carl Sagan – “extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence” – so we look forward to seeing more from Euclidean about their new technology soon!

With the release of Microsoft’s Kinect and Sony’s Move I thought it was all about updating the experience and not the graphics so there was no immediate need for new console systems. Well, the Nintendo Wii had the experience on lock when it came out in 2006 but it always had the worst graphics nor was it in true HD. Since that is the case if there was going to be a new console released by the big three Nintendo would be the one to do it first. Seems like there will be a new Wii announced during this summer’s E3.

Nintendo could be revealing a HD successor to the Wii console this summer, according to new reports.

There hasn’t been a new gaming console since the launch of the Wii and PlayStation 3 in November 2006. However, Microsoft has breathed new life into its console, the Xbox 360, thanks to the Kinect. The Wii, which has been best the best-selling console for years, is about to lose its first place position.

While Nintendo intends to respond to the Xbox threat by cutting the Wii’s price next month, it looks like the gaming company has another trick up its sleeve: a brand new HD console. According to Game Informer‘s sources, Nintendo plans to unveil a new console at the E3 conference in Los Angeles in June or potentially sooner.

Very little is known about the rumored console, not even the name (Wii 2? Wii HD? Wii 360?), but it’s likely to be more powerful than the Xbox 360 or the PlayStation 3, according to Kotaku. Nintendo has apparently been showing off the system to third-party developers so they can prepare titles for the console’s eventual launch in late 2012.

The Wii captured the hearts and minds of casual gamers with its innovative controller system and its lower price point, but the specs and visuals of its rival consoles are far stronger, giving them greater longevity. Microsoft has also mitigated the Wii’s advantage with causal gamers, thanks to Kinect. Perhaps that’s what is driving Nintendo’s rumored decision to be first on the market with a new console.

You know we love Gears of War in the Marvelous World and give it a shout out in chapter two of The Marvelous Effect. Looks like they have stepped up the Multi-player mode in a big way because it pretty much looks awesome. Take a look and you can be the judge. I saw this and thought it was hilarious!

The consensus opinion on 3D has been mixed at best. You have those that find the technology an added boost to the visual experience a film provides and others that hate wearing those damn glasses. Last year saw retailers bring on an onslaught of home theater upgrades into the 3D realm as well as seeing the tagline “In 3D” at the end of seemingly every movie trailer and now we are seeing it in gaming. Though 3D gaming on consoles is in it’s infancy stages there looks to be a clear front runner that comes as an unlikely champion in a very small package.

The Nintendo 3DS will instantly shock and make you a believer in where 3D technology will go in the very near future. For now, what it does give us is a way to experience 3D gaming without those damn glasses. And yes, the 3D is not a gimmick, it does look and work how 3D does in a theater or at home with some clever manipulation of the image on screen (only in the top screen on the device). The user has the ability to increase or lower the depth perception of the image on screen with a slide bar on the device itself going from standard 2D into 3D. Setting the slider up halfway or more in 3D mode will bring the user directly into the action of the game and gives it another level of depth that is astounding to say the least. The type of 3D seen here is more immersive, bringing the user into the 3D world as opposed to seeing a movie (wearing glasses) and having images and objects appear to move forward towards you. It’s something that needs to be seen and experienced rather than explained.

Street Fighter IV is a MAJOR stand out in what the 3D effect does to change the perspective on an entire game that you might have played before but will want to play again and experience it in a whole new way. Other stand outs include Pilotwings Resort and PES 2011 Pro Evolution Soccer that we’ve played thus far.

The price of the device ($249) is not cheap. That’s almost $100 more than Nintendo’s flagship console the Wii as a bundle. That alone will set some parents and other people to think twice before dropping that kind of cash on this.

We in the Marvelous World love the 3DS and can’t wait for more titles to come out and for us to get our hands on!!
