Stallone and his crew of hitters have continued to smack the snot out of the box office competition. The Expendables is still number one at the box office during its second week with a $16.5 million weekend take and $64.8 million total gross. Coming in second is Vampires Suck. This s a parody of vampire movies, namely Twilight, and that is why that movie had an opening audience even though it has been downloadable on the internet and received horrid reviews. Bow Wow’s Lottery ticket took in $11.1 million and that is respectable when you consider that it only cost $17 million to make.
Debuting at number 6 is Piranha 3D with $10 million. This film seems like great fun and received the best reviews of all of the new movies this week, but I guess people just wanted to stay home or see the expendables. It only cost $24 million to make so I am sure it will get its money back.
BIGGEST LOOSERS: Nanny McPhee, The Switch & Scott Pilgrim
Nanny McPhee: I am not going to lie and say that I do not encourage good family movies or that I did not like the first Nanny McPhee movie but c’mon!? Did you see the commericals? Who was this movie for? I am SURE it is great and heartwarming but we are a bit too far gone to be able to crave the films like this one. In my opinion, that movie was totally unmarketable in our current social climate. I guess that is why it tanked and that is sad. Still, it only cost $35 million to make so its probably will not be a huge failure.
The Switch: We like Jennifer Aniston. We like Jason Bateman. But are they enough to make us want to go to the movies and see them together? Oh hell no! The combination and movie synopsis is a rent on DVD NOT a go spend the cost of a movie ticket on type of film. They better give Jenifer Aniston some guns in her next movie or put her in an amazing small Oscar worthy performance because she what she is doing is not making her a box office draw. It is not that she is not great, because she is, but who the hell cares about the films she is doing? It is a tell tell sign when Bow Wow’s Ticket brings in more coin than her much more promoted film. Jason Bateman was never a movie star so we cannot expect him to carry a film. On to the next…
Scott Pilgrim: This movie was supposed to be a big hit and now it is number 10 in its second week in release. Sadly, this is an EPIC FAIL!!! Don’t worry Scott I am still going to see your film if it is still playing when I decide to leave the Midland Isle and I am going to buy it on DVD. Oh that is if I like it. I promise. And I might even get the game just to show love.
BTW I got these numbers from BOM
